Visionary Sees Positive Changes For West Virginia
Kevin L. Maynus announces his run for a seat with the West Virginia House of
Delegates for the 27th District. Maynus 36, a life-long Democrat and resident of Raleigh County knows he can make
a difference. He is enthusiastic about helping West Virginia citizens and he supports programs that make West Virginia
a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
Maynus has been involved with the Legislature for several years. He is adept at drafting
legislation and getting it passed, as it is part of his job as a Community
Resource Advocate and Office Coordinator with Mountain State Centers For Independent Living.
“I’m passionate about focusing on the issues,” says Maynus. “Politicians
have a fiduciary responsibility and obligations to the citizens of this State. I want West Virginia to be a place where
youth can look forward to going to college in-state and know they will have jobs here after graduation. They are our
future.” Maynus would also like to see an increase in the states minimum wage. “West Virginia families
can’t be expected to make it on $5.15 an hour with the rising cost of living and increasing gas prices.”
Other issues important to the candidate include lowering taxes and building the State’s economy by expanding existing
businesses and tourism. Maynus also wants to create new jobs for West Virginia citizens.

“Taxes need to be controlled and lowered” states Maynus. He is concerned
about ensuring that all West Virginia Veterans and their families receive the health care and benefits they have earned by
serving the state of West Virginia and their country.
Maynus also believes in the right to bear arms and he is a member of the NRA.
Although some subjects may be skirted by some politicians, Maynus discusses tough topics head-on.
He feels abortion should be allowed only in special circumstances, such as when the mother’s life is in jeopardy.
As for religion, “We need God’s guidance. I don’t agree with taking the Ten Commandments and prayer
out of our schools. I believe in the importance of family and family values.”
Maynus understands the needs of seniors and those with disabilities, and he tries to help others
to reach their highest level of independence and fulfillment. The candidate recognizes first-hand the struggles to reach
these goals, since he has a visual impairment. With support from his family and a lot of perseverance, Maynus graduated
with a B.S. in Criminal Justice and Sociology, from Fairmont State College. And, despite being blind, he went on to
earn a M.A.E. in Special Education, from the University of Alabama Birmingham.
“To be an effective representative and leader, it is important for one to be involved
in local and state organizations and associations, in order to understand the issues that impact the citizens of the State.”
To list a few, Maynus is a member of the Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce, Help America Vote Act Task Force, Beaver
Lions Club, and he has been appointed to Governor Manchin’s Transition Team.
Maynus believes that participating in law-making is how to make things better in the

State. “I have a vision for West Virginia and I plan to work for the people of this State
to make positive changes happen.”
